Alright, I’m going to start my monthly goals report where I’ll post the progress of my goals and things I’m doing in my life. So that you can correct me where I’m going wrong and also get inspiration from my work (some of you, I hope). This post is probably a lot longer than most future posts will be because this is the first time 😃 I’m writing this stuff.
Hat tip to Ali Abdal for the inspiration. I followed everything from him, that I like. So time for my May 2023 monthly goal report:
While setting the goal, I focus on three 🏆championship goals. Whenever I do these three things I feel like a champion.
- Health 🧑⚕️
- Work 🧑🏭
- Relationship 🫂
Health
🧘♀️ Fix my body shape:
The reason for joining the gym is to gain confidence. But after reaching there I get a new interest to get my body in shape and callous my mind. I’m consistent with going to the gym with my partner ( Mohsin)
I’ve been going to the gym since last month and now it’s been 45 days of going to the gym 6 days a week. I skip it for one week in the first week due to some family emergency, after that I’m consistent, no matter what my mood is (a little bit I’m a mood worker ). In the first month, we did all the exercises altogether, so that our bodies get used to it. Last week we start doing the special game and this month we are going to do the same, from next month we’ll do 2 games per day.
I did a workout daily for around 90 minutes, a 60-80 minutes workout and 15 minutes warm up. I didn’t have that much knowledge about muscles but still, my focus is on the number of reps. My partner also has the same mindset that we should focus on the long-run game. We didn’t do anything which harms our bodies like heavy lifting/ weight etc.. we are now focused on building our muscle strength. I’m callusing my mind also, breaking all my old limits and breaking my limiting beliefs slowly, slowly.
🏋️♂️Increase my weight and strength
My weight is 57.7 kg and my target for this month( June ) is to reach 60 without eating any mass gainers or any harmful things.
Why do I want to increase my weight?
So that I can wear clothes without judging myself. As I told you before that my reason for joining the gym is to work on my confidence.
On the bench press, I can lift 40 kg on my chest and my goal for next month is to lift 50 kg. While doing the legs I can lift 30 kg, the next target is to carry 40 kg.
🌄Morning routine
I try to get up early in the morning so that I can pray for Fajar Masjid but unfortunately, I failed a lot of times. Even Dad also convince me to get up as early as possible for prayer and whenever I missed it, Dad became angry with me. But you also know the taste of early morning sleep hahaha.
I’ve been working on my sleep quality and quantity after reading the book “5 Am Club” last year. Even my goal for this year to become a “5 am club member” means building the habit of waking up at 5 am. In Ramzan, I woke up daily at 4 am for 1 month but after that, I again fall into the trap of comfort zone, shit!!!!!!!!!!!! Whenever I woke up at Fajar my days’ length increased and also my productivity increased by 10x. More importantly, it gives happiness to me and my dad.
I note down my sleeping and waking hours daily so that I can get enough sleep quantitively. My target for sleep at least 6-7 hours daily and not surpass the limit of 8h/d. I try to limit myself from not sleeping more than 56 hours weekly. Before measuring my quantity of sleep I sleep more than 9 hrs per day, which is harmful for my health.
My early morning habit is directly dependent on my evening habit that’s why I focus on evening habits like before-bed phone usage and room lightning. I try to shut down my phone before 2 hours going to bed. I use some restrictions on the phone by certain software which don’t allow me to use the phone after 9:30.
🛌I sleep mostly before 11 pm.
Happiness
It’s a relationship goal from the championship goal.
✍️Do more journaling
It clears my mind, gives me happiness and reduces my stress about unnecessary things. Researches also suggest that it’s a good way to increase your health and happiness.
I journal daily whenever I have a mood but in the last 10 days, I started taking it sincerely( not seriously) in the form of morning 3 pages. I did it as the first activity of the day. I try not to break the chain of morning pages which is my target for at least 90 days.
I also started writing evening pages on my laptop of around 300 words. I always have the mood of writing before going to bed that’s why I started it digitally.
Why digitally💻? So that I can save papes which cost me so much. Writing digitally also helps in increasing my typing speed. I try to see at my keyboard while typing. It helps you to focus as a writer.
🥰 Be more grateful
Allah tells us in the Quran that we shall be rewarded for showing gratitude: 3:145 "... If any Do desire a reward in this life, We shall give it To him; and if any Do desire a reward in the Hereafter, We shall Give it to him. And swiftly shall We reward those that (serve us with) gratitude".
I’ve been practising gratitude exercise this year but I’m not consistent in it also. I try to write one thing daily for which I’m grateful
Inshallah, I try to be consistent this month in writing three daily things before going to bed.
🗣️Do more chit-chat with my old friends and family.
I meet with them every Sunday sometimes even on weekdays if by chance we get a chance to meet. I didn’t call my family members daily but this time I imagine the near-death experience and suddenly after that, I make a schedule of calling them on turn wise in the night on weekdays.
I try to call my parents at night or in the morning daily, especially my dad.
🏏Playing cricket
At the weekend we play cricket without missing any week. Even all of my friends are waiting for Sunday. Fun fact I’m captain of my team 😂.
I’m a right-arm medium-fast bowler and right-hand batsman, I’m learning wrist spin bowling like the Rashid Khan bowl.
Major project
It’s a work goal from the championship goals.
🎓Academics
Currently, I m preparing for the 4th-semester exam which is at the top of my head but I didn’t feel any pressure yet (why?). I’ll become a pressure cooker when economics paper came closer to me (weakest link). My internal went well and due to that, I got a lot of help in preparing for the externals.
Now I only have left some revision and this time I also change the approach for preparation. I make notes from books and from the chatGPT which helps me the most. I continuously test myself after studying which I hate the most 😢 but due to that, my preparation became so so good.
I try to write in points and paragraphs, by that I can explain more and can explain my thought clearly, Iqraa😍 gave me this tip, and it helps me a lot
I also joined the series of ias lectures in which I learn about economics because I’m weak in economics and due to exams I put a break in it, inshallah complete it in this month.
I’m reading the Ncert books of all the subjects from 6th because it will help me in nurturing the base for my law entrance. I didn’t buy it, I take it from Aredha.
✍️Writing
I didn’t do that much writing work because I procrastinate a lot when it comes to writing. I give excuses every time to myself or I put in some other work that time. One of my excuses is I don’t have a website but finally, I built it, where you are currently reading this, it takes 6 months for to me complete this ( how lazy I’m). I work one day and then give myself some excuse that my laptop is not working etc, even in reality they are not all that big excuses.
In the last week, Finally I started the blog which I wrote daily before going to bed, but still, I don’t have a clear understanding of it, like why I started and what I’m going to write there.
Writing is hard for me, but I love writing, that’s why I didn’t give up on it. Even for the last three months, I didn’t post anything but still I’m trying to write daily. I researched every time and then I stuck while writing the draft or sometimes I stuck during the research and this cycle continues. But inshallah this month ill create at least 2-3 articles of 1000 words at least.
“ One of the secrets to staying young is to always do things you don’t know how to do, to keep learning.” —- Ruth Reichl
I don’t know anything about article writing that’s why I procrastinate a lot. I didn’t want to create value less article I aim to create highly valued articles which can rank on Google in at least the top 3😁
📖Reading
Last month I read one Kindle book “Feeling is the Secret” which is all about how our subconscious mind takes control of our behaviour. My unfished book is “Can’t Hurt” which I’m still reading, I read around 250 pages of this book which is all month’s progress. I read for almost 1 hour daily, but due to inconsistency with my reading habit, I didn’t get that much progress.
Somehow I’m still learning about reading and how to make it enjoyable because, for the last some months, I make it complicated.
Learning cool stuff
✍️Learning writing
It’s a new thing for me and very exciting for me. As you know that I fucked up in execution and that’s why I didn’t write any big pieces yet. Writing is all about execution, like the 80/20 rule, learning is only 20 % and execution is 80%. I learned about how to make your online presence and how to write articles which can rank on Google, 80% work is still pending. I have a lot of writing work pending, how can I die peacefully…………………….
🗣️Learning a new language
Learning Arabic so that I can understand Quaran. I’m learning it from Youtube from Nouman Ali, the classes are about 30-40 hours which I watched around 6-7 hours and now I’ll continue after completing the semester exam.
I m also Learning English grammar from a chatGPT…Hat tip to Ankur for inpiraiton.
Learning website building
I learned it little bit from Udemy but now I’ve to learn more so that I can call myself a professional website builder. I didn’t want to be ordinary in anything ( fun fact )
💹Learning Excel
I bought the course on Udemy in 2022 which is about 30 hours. I watched almost 20 % and learned about the basic of Exel which helped me in maintaining my monthly expense report. Toward the end of the year ill call myself an Excel expert.
⌨️Learning typing
It’s been a long journey, and still, I’m typing at the speed of 55 wpm. I practice daily almost in between the Pomodoro gap. I also get a lot of good thoughts while typing. Even I meditate while typing on the keyboard. Hat tip to Ali Abdal for the inspiration
So that’s it. This post is a hell of a lot longer than I thought it would be, but if you’ve read this far, I hope you’ve found it vaguely interesting.
I’d love for you to connect with me on Linkedin.
